Don’t Eat Your Feelings:

For quite some time now, I have found that it not easy for most people to experience their true emotions without consequences. Feelings are complex, difficult, and often a scary proposition for many to tackle. It is not uncommon to distract, bury, or deny, and repress feelings, even if they are compliments or good feelings. Instead of trusting or allowing feelings to understand what they are telling you, feelings are often diverted to use of substances (Food, alcohol, nicotine, pot, pain killers) to distract from having or allowing uncomfortable feelings.

Which feelings do you have that you are suppressing?

Perhaps if you thought of your feelings as a  compass for you to understand yourself better, it wouldn’t be so scary or difficult. The remedy? Take a look at exploring emotions as they arise. Journal, seek support, tune in to trusting your emotions rather than repressing them. Maybe even get yourself into therapy to have an objective person help you sort through them. The more you repress emotions, the greater the buildup and likely distress you will experience. Try to understand yourself, have the feeling and learn to trust them and be comfortable feeling!!!  TED Talk on Not Eating Your Feelings. So, what do you do? FEEL THEM!!!!  The thing you don’t want to feel, feel it and be free.
