Hypnosis and Weight Loss

I get many requests to help people lose weight using hypnosis. So, how well does it work? What can you expect? What is the success rate?

The answers are as follows:

1) Hypnosis is an adjunct to a weight loss program. It is NOT the only element needed to lose weight. The is no magic bullet. Weight loss is really life style change. A good weight loss plan or program needs to include a very detailed and consistent exercise program of at least 3 days a week, a healthy diet or nutrition plan, support (like Weight Watchers or Overeaters Anonymous (OA), caloric reduction in the vicinity of 1200-1500 per day, and mood management. Getting a baseline of caloric intake is important understand. Writing down everything you eat for 1 week helps raise awareness and benchmark your “normal” fat gram and calorie intake.

2) Since food is mood in many cases, exploring the emotions associated with eating is another essential component. This is where counseling is helpful. Creating a weight loss plan and establishing a team of support enhances success. A nutritionist, personal trainer, support group and help from family and friends creates the basics for a team to help you.

3) Hypnosis helps curb cravings, urges and automatic or unconscious eating. Hypnosis also provides insight into new ways to mentally rehearse your new eating and exercise habits. Breaking patterns my making new associations and replacing old behavior is improved with the use of trance.
